Heartsong Animal Rescue, although not known by that name then, began in 1976 with the rescue of Sunny.

Sunny was a black-mane African lioness who was living in a small cage with several other large cats, of different varieties.

Sunny suffered from malnutrition, rickets, and was in need of medical attention.

We rescued her, and brought her back to health. She lived out her days in our care.
